What Is The SVTA Sandbox?
The Sandbox is an SVTA project managed by the Streaming Video Operations Working Group. This project is intended to enable quick and easy spin-up of end-to-end workflows for SVTA Working Groups to use for testing and analysis.
The SVTA Sandbox is built on the Google Cloud Platform and incorporates a number of SVTA member company technologies as Terraform recipes.
How Does it Work?
When a Working Group wants to stand-up an end-to-end workflow, they select the Terraform recipes they want to use, and run the startup script in the repo. This implements the recipes in Google Cloud Platform, creating a new project, and defining IAM roles based upon the users configured in the .yaml file.
Once spun up, the WG can then specify configuration and other settings for the individual technologies in the workflow.
Product licenses are handled from a secrets file in the repo.

Building A Better Way to Test

Roadmap
The Sandbox is being developed in three phases:
- Phase 1. This is the current iteration: Terraform recipes executed through a Github script in CLI.
- Phase 2 (ETA: Q4, 2026). The recipes will be abstracted through a web-based UI that allows working groups and project leads to check boxes for components they want to include. They can also specify a project name and other details related to managing and billing the project.
- Phase 3 (ETA: Q3, 2027.): In addition to the end-user UX, there will be administrative tools to provide for better back office management of projects. Users will have to fill out a request form which, after being approved through an admin dashboard, can then specify their workflow components. Administrators will be able to track usage, billing, and reporting for all active projects.

The following Terraform recipes are available within the SVTA Sandbox. As more technology companies contribute recipes, they will be added here.
